The Cresskill High School Robotics Team is a non profit organization that builds robots and competes in First Tech Challenge robotics competitions. The first team was established in 2013 by a group of freshmen (class of 2017) who are all members of the STEM Academy at Cresskill, and share a great interest in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) field. Together they became Team 6983 (aka the CouGEARS), and since their establishment have been incredibly successful. The team has won numerous qualifiers and even competed in the Semi-Final Round at the Liberty Science Center in 2013. In 2014, there was such a large group of students interested in joining the current team that a new team was formed. Team 8485 (aka the CouBOTS) was established in 2014 and alongside the CouGEARS, both teams actively compete in the FTC Challenge annually. Being a part of the robotics team is a unique experience that allows for students to actively learn about the STEM field in a fun and engaging environment. Wishing to give back to the community and educate younger members of the community about the wonders of the STEM field, the CHS Robotics Team has established an annual event titled "Family STEM Night", where families and other members of the community are invited to take part in interactive, hands-on STEM-related activities. All proceeds raised from this event support the teams to help cover for expenses such as playing fields, robot parts, and team shirts.
